The green culture at Nibbi sprouted in 2002, when we began requiring our Project Managers and Preconstruction Managers become LEED® Accredited Professionals. With their knowledge and expertise, we have built some of the greenest buildings in the Bay Area. Nibbi Green is a philosophy based on the “triple bottom line” of sustainable building and design (people, planet, profit). Every sustainable decision we make must have a positive social, environmental and economic impact.
Our Sustainability Agenda
The most successful sustainability strategies are created when we are involved in an integrated design and construction process. When possible, we collaborate with our architecture and engineering partners to develop green building systems that are highly integrated, efficient, and constructible.
Other green initiatives and guidelines for maximizing our sustainable efforts include:
Jobsite
- Recycling 75-95% of our construction debris
- Donating reusable construction materials to non-profit groups
- Using biodiesel in our construction equipment
- Using non-toxic cleaners
- Employing only certified environmental hazardous waste removal firms
- Implementing Storm Water Pollution Prevention Programs (SWPPPs)
- Providing fleet vehicles for multi-employee use
Office
- Eliminating all plastic bottles and styrofoam
- Radically reducing paper use by using double-sided printing, streamlining all documents, and emailing submittals and RFIs
- Using printing paper with a minimum of 35% recycled content and stationery with 100% recycled content
- Using auto-sensor and low-flow plumbing fixtures
- Recycling at least 50% of office debris
- Donating gently used office equipment to non-profits
- Encouraging public transportation, carpooling, and bike commuting through incentives
