Nibbi Makes ENR’s Top 400 Contractors List
For the second time in five years, San Francisco-based Nibbi Brothers General Contractors has earned a spot on the ENR Top 400 Contractors list.
The ENR Top 400 Contractors list, published annually in May, ranks the largest 400 general contractors in the U.S. based on construction contracting-specific revenue.
In 2007, Nibbi ranked 384th on the list. In 2011, the most recent ranking, Nibbi leapfrogged to 294th on the list with revenues of $184.8 million.
Adding significant strength to Nibbi’s 2011 ranking is its Exploratorium project, located at Piers 15 and 17 in San Francisco. The $140.7 million Exploratorium is one of Nibbi’s largest and most technically complex projects to date. The project, which started in November 2010 and has an estimated completion date of November 2012, involves the renovation of two historic piers, demolition of the connector building and the parking lot between the two piers, and the construction of a new observatory building and two new bridges that span the water and connect the piers. The Exploratorium is also one of Nibbi’s greenest projects to date, targeting LEED® Gold (possibly Platinum) and striving to become the first Net-Zero Energy museum in the country. The project incorporates state of the art technologies, including a system that draws water from the Bay to provide all of the building’s heating and cooling.
Other large Nibbi projects in 2011 included: Lion Creek Crossing affordable housing ($23.8 million); Merritt Crossing affordable senior housing ($19 million); Mission Bay Block 2 ($90 million), (Monarch Village market-rate senior apartments ($56 million); and Potrero Launch market-rate apartments ($41 million).
