On Saturday October 15, Nibbi partnered with EHDD Architects and KPFF Engineers for LEAP’s annual “Sandcastle Classic” at Ocean Beach. LEAP, a non-profit organization that raises funds for arts education in Bay Area schools, enlists “design-build” teams of contractors, architects and engineers and pairs them with students from a local elementary school. The various teams compete by building sand sculptures at Ocean Beach, based on a special theme. This year, 27 teams built huge sand sculptures which dotted the northern end of the beach, near the Cliff House.
This year’s theme was “Makers and Movers – The People and Things that Move Us.” Together with students from Junipero Serra Elementary, the Nibbi/EHDD/KPFF/JS team built a “ThingamaBOBatron,” depicting a fantasy factory that magically builds all sorts of objects.
You can check out photos of all the sand sculptures at LEAP’s Facebook page.
