South San Francisco Ferry Terminal Grand Opening

Nibbi Brothers General Contractors recently completed construction on the South San Francisco Ferry Terminal, adding to Nibbi’s already deep experience working on the Bay Area waterfront.

Nibbi’s scope of work on the design-build project included building the gangway and float; providing structural and rough-in for the mechanical/electrical/plumbing/fire elements of the viewing platform; and completing the canopy pier structure, which was built off-site, barged in and lifted into place on the pier substructure.

The new San Francisco Bay Ferry is the first new ferry service on the San Francisco Bay in more than two decades. It will offer trips to and from Alameda and Oakland to South San Francisco. According to information from WETA (Water Emergency Transportation Authority, the organization that operates the ferry, the new ferry service will serve “the vibrant and growing employer base in South San Francisco, [as well as will] ensure emergency access in the event of a natural disaster.” The ferry also will provide direct service to AT&T Park for San Francisco Giants weekday night games and all weekend and holiday games.

A grand opening was held at the Oyster Point Marina Ferry Terminal on June 4. Joining the more than 300 guests were Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Assemblyman Jerry Hill, South San Francisco Mayor Richard Garbarino, and project team members.
