Grand Opening for Ashby Lofts

October 10th 2007 marked the official opening of Ashby Lofts in Berkeley.  The 54-unit affordable housing project is non Ashby Avenue at 9th.  Developed by Berkeley-based Affordable Housing Associates (AHA), the project has a one-level concrete podium with four floors of wood-frame housing above.  The one, two and three-bedroom units are arranged in four sections so that each unit has windows on two sides.  The podium level contains parking and commercial space as well as a community room, laundry facility, property management offices and a computer room.  There is an outdoor play facility in the front of the building.  

Ashby Lofts was designed by Kava Massih Architect and has several elements of sustainable construction, including rooftop photovoltaic panels to provide energy savings to the tenants.
