Nibbi Brothers was selected as the General Contractor for this project and worked with the owners and design team to provide preconstruction services. The existing building on site was demolished and two new buildings were constructed. Shelter Network is San Mateo County's primary provider of housing and services for homeless children and adults. It serves more than 2,000 homeless children, parents, and single adults, and provides over 120,000 nights of shelter every year. The First Step for Families project is approximately 29,000 SF and has two buildings; a 3-story, 24-unit emergency shelter and a 3-story, 15-unit transitional housing building. The new state of the art facility will serve twice as many families at a time. The main building has ground floor administrative offices, licensed childcare, community rooms and a computer center with an Internet connection. The 2nd and 3rd floor each has 12 studio apartments and 6 bathrooms with the bathrooms linking two units. The transitional housing building consists of three floors of five 1-bedroom apartments. |
