rose court
LOCATION San Francisco
CONTRACT $4,753,105
COMPLETION DATE May 2001
ARCHITECT Asian Neighborhood Design
OWNER St. Rose Academy, Dominican Sisters

This project consisted of renovating the old St. Rose School into 19 units of affordable housing, including the manager's unit, a child care center, a community center and a courtyard complete with landscaping and parking. The original architectural elements of the building were preserved so that the building retained its historical feeling while providing modern comforts.

The work consisted of seismically upgrading the existing two story building which was unreinforced masonry on the first floor and one floor of wood framed structure above. We added a third floor, which had previously been destroyed in a fire. The seismic upgrades included adding new transition walls below the first floor, new shear walls and floor diaphragms throughout the building, adding a continuous collector strap to the existing foundation and installing hold downs.
